Just booked a spur-of-the-moment NYC trip. It may be my last one for a while. I'm really looking to move out but having a hard time finding a place. I figured while I still have some money, I'll have one last go. I'm actually going to get to the Statue of Liberty this time. I've already booked it. No crown, unfortunately, but I'd probably hate that climb anyway.

Randomly, I've been feeling really nostalgic for Harry Potter lately. I miss the midnight book releases. :(

There's a Humble Bundle special going on now where you could get Sims 3 with a couple of expansion packs for under $5. It comes with a load of other games too and the money all goes to charities. You can pick how much goes to which charity. The charities are: Human Rights Campaign, Watsi, American Red Cross, San Fransisco AIDS Foundation and American Cancer Society. I'd never heard of Watsi but after reading a bit about it, it seems a worthy cause. I know there at least used to be some Sims players on my FL so I thought I'd mention it.

The other games, FYI are Dead Space, Dead Space 3, Burnout Paradise Ultimate, Crysis 2 Maximum Ed, Mirror's Edge, Medal of Honor and Battlefield 3. For a donation of $1 or more you get everything but Battlefield 3 and Sims 3. For those, you need to donate more than the average donation which right now is $4.75.

Sooo, I did NYC again. I'm kind of bummed it's over. :( Been back for almost a week and I still sorta miss it.

I saw Annie on Broadway. I kind of didn't like it. :-X It was incredibly... average. And a bit different from the story I know.

Went on the NYC TV and Movies Tour. It was so cool. I saw the Friends apartment which was cool. Got my picture taken in front of it. hehe. We also saw the street the Huxtables lived on. We didn't stop there though. Or even drive down it. :( I would have liked to. The guide told us the fountain in Central Park is the fountain from Friends but when I tried to google to find out where exactly it was and go get a picture I found out it was actually a studio prop in California. Booo! It was a lie!

And, because I am, essentially, a child, I also got Lego. How cool is this though? I can't wait to start it.

I wish I'd gotten to see more. Still haven't gotten to the Statue of Liberty. Oh,oh forgot. I saw a space shuttle! It never actually went into space... but it was a real space shuttle!

I also got a couple of books at The Strand. (Love that place.) The Great Gatsby which I just finished and the second book in The Mysterious Benedict Society. I found the series in a "Recommendations for Harry Potter Withdrawal" list. Read the first one and I kind of enjoyed it.

Urg. I lost my watering can in Animal Crossing to a camper yesterday. I thought I had another. I don't. And Lief didn't have one yesterday or today. Now my flowers are dying. :( Stupid game. :)~ Oh well; I did figure out how to make a town tune. I made it the Harry Potter theme. Any Animal Crossing players wanna trade friend codes?

Going to NYC again. I had a credit voucher I had to use by this month. I was going to go to LA but the distance was a bit daunting to do alone. And it would have been a shorter trip. I'll do that when I have someone to go with. And more money to spend a good week there. Also still have to do London. I was supposed to go a few years ago. But the person I was to go with and I had a falling out. Anyway... WHAT SHOULD I DO IN NYC??

Paid Account expired. So I'm now Plus. (Livejournal Plus + AdBlock Plus = not bad) I was a little worried they'd force the new Friends Page on me once I expired but they didn't. I won't even try it because I don't trust that they'd let me change it back. (Aversion to change? Me Naaaaw)

I made lasagna tonight. With egg roll wrappers. Pretty quick. It turned out pretty darned good too! I need to start learning to cook. So tired of eating like a college dorm student. I have, like, 3 things that I can make that are actual meals and the one is kinda bad for you and sort of special that I only make it once or twice a year. (Mom's Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs. Mmm, so good.)

Ending now because I got distracted browsing Pinterest in another window and lost my train of thought.

Caught this one second-hand but still have to add it as it's one of my fave kidlets.

Nico (2nd grade, autistic, hilarious): *obsessing over a train on his desk*
EA: Nico, listen to your teacher, she's talking to you.
Nico: *not listening*
EA: Listen to... what's your teacher's name?
Nico: Mrs. BORE-ing!

I love that kid.

I have just started reading Sherlock Holmes. I've never read any of them before and when I stayed in NYC earlier this month, I was given a choice from four free books. I chose The Complete Sherlock Holmes Vol. 1. I'm rather enjoying it. I just finished the first story "A Study in Scarlet" and Holmes reminded me very much of House. I mentioned it to my father and he was all "No way! They're nothing alike." I get the first couple of paragraphs into the second story and Holmes is shooting up something. Watson asks "Is it morphine or cocaine this time?" Uh-huh. Not a thing alike. I am glad I picked this though. Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes is probably not something I would have ever thought to seek out; it's a little different than my usual style. I thought the language might put me off a bit, but I'm doing fairly well with that. Just wish the pool was open so I could sit in it and float and read.

Trying so hard to resist buying this:
http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Harry_Potter_Wizard%27s_Collection

It is cheaper at Amazon, but that's still really, really pricey.
http://www.amazon.ca/Potter-Wizards-Collection-Blu-ray-Digital/dp/B007FJPN5G/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1345855878&sr=8-4

I wasn't even all that enamoured of all of the movies. But I miss Harry Potter. And this set just looks so freaking cool!

I've been trying to figure out who he reminds me of. Kris Allen keeps floating to mind but I'm not sure that's it. It doesn't ring right. Ot has been driving me nuts since I first saw his picture in the Playbill. He totally reminds me of someone. But I can't figure out who.

Okay, so, just got back from 21 Jump St. Generally didn't care for it, but this guy in the movie totally had this James Franco vibe. I kept thinking it could be him- 5 years ago. Come to find out, just now; it was his freaking brother! I have something else to say, but I'll wait until a few more people have seen it.

Finally feeling a little bit of energy today after having the flu for over a week and then just feeling like crap for another week. I think I'm going to go see 21 Jump Street even though it'll probably piss me off being made into stupid comedy as opposed to Serious Cop Show... with humorous moments. AndhotJohnnyDepp. Hunger Games next week! I thought about reading the book again, but I'm not going to make that mistake again. Did that with Harry Potter and ended up hating the movie for messing up the book so badly. WOULD IT HAVE KILLED YOU TO PUT MORE FRED AND GEORGE? HUH? Anyway. March Break has passed me by and I spent it battling this flu or whatever instead of getting my room cleared out and cleaned up. I had planned on doing that during March Break for months. Feh.

I just realized I still have a few wrestling icons here. I've not watched in several months. I should probably get rid of them... Or use one now just because.

I made spare ribs tonight. It was one of my favourite meals my mother used to make. I used her recipe but it was a bit hard to follow at some points. She had ingredients listed but no measurements. She had a curly bracket/brace around some of the no measurement ingredients, for what reason, I don't know. It's kind of frustrating and kind of depressing that I can't just ask her "WTF?". On thing I did discover was that they needed to cook for way longer than she had indicated. As in, I put them back in for 40 minutes or so longer and they still weren't done enough. Dad and I ate and I turned off the oven and put the pot back into the still-hot oven for another hour. The oven was so hot I still needed potholders to take the pot out. They seemed better then. A little saucier better smell and flavour than before but still but they still didn't taste quite right. Not very flavourful. At all. I'm thinking I didn't put enough of the no measurement ingredients in.

Here is her recipe:

Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs

Layer ribs, onion, S & P
Bake covered 350 - 1 hr.
Drain fat

Sauce:
1/2 c brown sugar
salt
soya sauce
worcester sauce
HP sauce
1 T dry musard

1/4 c catchup

1 1/2 T corn starch
1/4 c vinegar
3/4 c cold water

Cover. 1 hr. 350 F

The three items in blockquote are the things that have the brace.
At least I know enough about my mom's shorthand to know T = tablespoon, t = teaspoon and c = cup. Really have no idea what { around several things means. It's also in pencil where the recipe is in pen. Not sure if that means anything.

In other news, I'm not sure if I mentioned it or not but my 21 Jump Street: The Complete Series was missing an episode. The episode was Johnny Depp and Dustin Nguyen's last ep. It was the Season 4 finale but showed up as the first ep on Season 5 of the stand-alone season sets. It was deleted entirely from the Series set. I wrote the production company to ask what was up with that and they promised to mail me the disk with the missing episode. I didn't expect them to follow through but today I received not only the missing episode, but the entire Season 5 if the stand-alone set and, very randomly, Season 1 of That 70s Show. Bonus!

It's been 1 month. My 5 season, 103 episode marathon of 21 Jump Street is over. Along the way, one Jump Street episode was missing, substituted with one Booker episode. I will see that Blackout episode one day. The company who made the DVD set promised to mail the disk with the missing episode to me. I won't hold my breath. But if it does come, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thoughts:
I'll start with Season 5. It didn't suck. I was surprised. I really expected to hate it. Don't get me wrong, it had some crappy episodes, but so did the other seasons. Once they stopped playing revolving door with the cast, I really settled in to Fuller, Mac and Hoffs. Mac grew on me. He really grew on me. If there was a sixth season, I'd have fallen for him hard. Heck, Joey was even starting to grow on me a little when he was disappeared. I missed Penhall (the elder) when he left. His disappearance was almost harder than Hanson's because you knew even back then that Depp wanted out. Peter DeLuise was a surprise exit. And they actually wrote him out. Hanson and Ioki just disappeared. I don't think I watched much, if any of Season 5 back in the day. None of it seemed familiar. And one of the funny things watching the other seasons was there were many times when I knew what line was coming up even though it's been 20+ years since I've seen it.

That was another thing. Everything about it really did feel like stepping back into another time. From the quality/production value to the dress and language to the storylines... Damn, a lot has changed in 20 years.

.....and I stopped writing to go make a new icon. Several hours later, I've got one new icon. Well, in fairness, I've got many variations on one icon. Picking at the colouring. I actually went to make a Mac one. And got another Hanson instead. Why I felt the need to make an icon in the middle of writing a journal entry, I couldn't tell you.

This is why I can never get anything done. I stop in the middle of doing something to do other things.

Season 5 is well underway. Hanson is a distant memory. :( Penhall suddenly became... kinda hot. In a weird sort of way I can't even really explain. Hoffs is much less annoying. Penhall the Younger is not my favourite. Mac is sort of cute at times but they're pushing his quasi-bromance with Penhall the Elder a bit too hard. They went from just about hating each other to BFFs overnight. And, Hanson is the one true BFF. Yes. I went there.

One new icon. Hanson... perching. I'm not entirely fond of the way it came out but I'm happy enough. Maybe one day I'll try capping some of the episodes. Once I figure out how to do it...

So, I just bought Booker- The Complete Series (Richard Grieco spinoff) for $13.49. Heh. I vaguely recall watching it. Can't recall a single solitary thing beyond that I watched it. Apparently, the version I bought has had the music (including the theme song) changed out and an entire episode with B.B. King was left off. I will try to find that ep online. I probably could have bought the PAL version which does contain the ep. and the music but it would have been considerably more money and required some DVD burning or other hacking to remove the region lock. More trouble than it's worth. For $13, I'll deal with the lack of Billy Idol on the theme song. And googling one episode.

Coming to the end of Season 3 of 21Jump St. Hanson's major face-time time is coming to an end. He was still around in Season 4 but not as much. I adore Tom Hanson. One of my favourite things about him is the way he perches cross-legged on things. I don't know why but it's just so randomly endearing. Car hoods, tables, desks, filing cabinets, he's always just there, on top... cross-legged.

At this point, nearly through Season 3, you are starting to see the decline in his role though. Sad, that. More so when you've main lined the entire series in a week. Makes the decline so much more noticeable. I'm disappointed Johnny Depp hated the show so much. He was such fun to watch. Swallowed Alive (S2 Ep9) was brilliant.

The stories are gone again. The fog lifted sometime last night and took my creativity with it.

Into the first disk of Season 2 of 21 Jump St. It's so very dated and dang, there is some bad acting at times but I'm still enjoying it. Johnny Depp was effin hot then and I forgot how much I love Penhall.

Back to school tomorrow. Sigh. Not looking forward to it. Christmas sort of sucked and I'm really not into saying that or explaining why to people who'll ask but don't really care about the answer anyway. I spent the whole time sick anyway. Still not really well. Didn't get any of the stuff done that I wanted to. Didn't even get Christmas cookies made. Not really that big a deal, I know, but it just feels like without my mom there, stupid stuff like that really magnify. She loved Christmas and my father and brother couldn't be bothered. Makes her not being here seem more.

Just took the Christmas stuff down and cleaned up in the kitchen a little. Such a small dent in what all needs doing in this house. Sort of bummed that the holiday's over and I didn't really accomplish anything. I wanted to get things cleaned up and sorted out.

I was in the entertainment trader store the other day and found a used copy of.... 21 Jump Street: The Complete Series! It was $35! And, wow. A quick google reveals that I got hosed on the price, but whatever. I'm soexcited. I loved that show. I used to babysit for a kid every week the night it was on and she was supposed to go to bed at 8:30. I would let her stay up til 9 to watch it with me. Staying up later was the bribe to let me watch it at 8 and not whatever it was she wanted. She actually got into it and would want to watch it other nights. lesigh. /nostalgia. I must start watching this today. I was trying to catch up with Supernatural for tonight and I'm down to needing to see two more episodes before I'm caught up, but let's be honest- I won't keep up with it. That show is forever going to be my watch-15-eps-in-one-shot show. I haven't stayed up-to-date with that show, watching the eps as they air in a couple of years now. My interest wanes and my attention span is ridiculous sometimes. Thank goodness for DVR.
